millrateThe District Finance Committee recommended a property tax levy which was $207,000 less

than the allowable levy and residents approved this decreased levy at the Annual Meeting on October 20th. Board President Tom Steiner explained that the District was informed that we would receive $207,000 more than expected in consolidation incentive aid from the State. The Finance Committee recommended this money be used to reduce the burden on taxpayers.

Based on the District’s Revenue Limit, the District could have levied $2,730,579. The Table below shows the maximum levy allowed, the reduced levy which was actually adopted, and the effect on the taxes and tax rate.

Maximum Levy Reduced Levy Savings
$2,730,579 $2,523,688 $206,891
Tax Rate (in mils) $7.51 $6.94 $.57

District Business Manager, Michelle Brown explained that the new levy increased $58,280 from the 2008-09 levy (2.4%). Had the maximum levy been adopted, the levy would have increased by $265,171 (10.8%)

At the Board meeting which followed the Annual meeting, the Board of Education confirmed this levy was sufficient to operate and maintain the schools. District Clerk, Cole Marshall certified the levy.
